Secure File Transfer Process - AFS

All AFS customers have the option to transfer files securely via an SFTP server. This process supports the automatic creation of return alerts within the TrueChecks database and may also be used to upload Positive Pay presented checks or, for TrueChecks Batch customers, to submit batch files.

In order to access your institutions SFTP settings, you must be a Client Admin. Once you are logged into the TrueChecks Web Portal, select Administration > Client > SFTP Account and you will see the credentials that need to be created. 

The following requirements must be met to connect to the AFS SFTP server: .

• You will need a SFTP client (Examples: WinSCP, FileZilla, MOVEit, OpCon, Ipswitch, etc.)
• You will need to set up a SFTP Account
  • Username - You want your username to be related to your institution name (Examples: sample_cu, sftp_samplecu)
  • Password - When it comes to your SFTP password it needs to be 10-14 characters long.
• Your public IP address should be allowlisted in the IP Allowlist box as an extra security precaution. You can always add this later if you don't know it. 
• You will need to connect on port 60044. This is a non-standard port that your IT department may need to open access to. 
• Secure Shell (SSH) authentication is an alternative security protocol that you can configure. For instructions on how to configure this, please click here. Please note that if you configure Secure Shell authentication, you will not need to configure SFTP credentials.

Once you have created your username, password, and allowlisted your IP address, click Save Changes. 

Once these settings have been saved, you are now able to connect to your SFTP client. It is recommended that you save these credentials when creating the connection so you do not lose/have to reset the password. 

In order to get your files to transfer successfully, the first time you connect to the SFTP, a batch directory will be created (see image below). Your files must be placed into the appropriate directory in order to process properly. If files are placed in the white space, your files will not be picked up and ultimately, they will not process or create alerts. AFS can receive files that are moved manually (drag and drop) however we recommend that you use an automated process (automated script).
