It has been discovered that either through set processes, input error or possible hardware/software error, on the financial institution's side, it is not uncommon for multiple query submissions to occur during the processing of a single check instance. With the 5-minute rule, we can potentially avoid confusion around the duplicate query alert.
Who does this apply to?
The duplicate detection rule applies to all clients that subscribe to the duplicate detection license. This license provides the financial institution with access to our duplicate detection feature for any check that is ran multiple times through the database. If this is a feature you are not using and would like to know more about, please feel free to reach out to your Account Manager or AFS Support.
How It Works:
Each customer is by default configured with a “5 Minute Rule.” This means if a check is searched/scanned and then run against the AFS system again within 5 minutes, duplicate detection will not occur, and you will see your original result rather than the recommended action of Deny because of a duplicate query. Note: If the check is searched more than 5 minutes after the initial search, a Deny recommendation will come back because the rule will have expired for that individual transaction. At that point, a duplicate detection will be triggered.
Can The Timeframe For This Rule Be Changed?
Yes. The time limit is configurable to be shorter or longer based on FI requirements. Please reach out to the AFS Support team with your request to change the time limit.
Can This Feature Be Disabled Altogether?
Yes. Please reach out to the AFS support team with your request to disable this enhancement.
What Product Channel Does This Impact?
This enhancement impacts the TrueChecks Web Portal manual searches as well as API searches with our integrated partners. Note: If you are a TrueChecks Batch or Real time Batch customer, this is not configured for Batch services at this time.
