Overview
Behavioral Analysis establishes an account’s baseline transaction amount and transaction velocity patterns, then flags behavior that deviates from those baselines.
Behavioral Analysis is not available for originated transactions today.
Statistics Calculation and Baseline
Behavioral Analysis statistics are calculated and recalculated each time a transaction is encountered for a given account.
For both transaction amount and transaction velocity, the system calculates three subsets of statistics:
- Overall — Calculated across all transactions, regardless of type (credit or debit). This represents the account’s full behavioral pattern.
- Credit — Calculated using only credit transactions (money coming into the account).
- Debit — Calculated using only debit transactions (money leaving the account).

Suggested Recommended Action Setup
Clients can work with the AFS support team to configure recommended actions based on behavioral responses. Some suggestions include:
- Abnormal Transaction Amount Warning:
- If Transaction Amount > Second Standard Deviation of Transaction Amount
- Then set to Warning
- If Transaction Amount > Second Standard Deviation of Transaction Amount
- Abnormal Transaction Velocity Warning:
- If Transaction Velocity > Second Standard Deviation of Daily Transactions
- Then set to Warning
- If Transaction Velocity > Second Standard Deviation of Daily Transactions
Historical Data Contribution
Clients can provide a historical backlog of incoming ACH files to build a behavioral baseline for their accounts.
Files can be sent to the Contributions folder within the AFS SFTP, and the Support team can assist in coordinating the transfer.
